This week’s recap of press mentions and awards is a long one. Here we go!

Bob Bernstein [Bongo Productions], Nicholas Holland [Populr.me], Kevin Ross [Metova] and Mike Rustici [Rustici Software] were all featured in Forbes on Oct. 15. Forbes asked company founders their big “aha” moments. Bob is #17, Nicholas #22, Kevin #22 and Mike #73.

Ben Hanback [The Hanback Group] and Tim Ozenger [OZ Nashville] were featured in the Nashville Post on Sunday. The story mentioned Ben and Tim as two of many local investors looking to increase portfolios with alternative investing.

The Nashville Technology Council Gala Awards took place Tuesday, Oct. 23. Congratulations to the following EO member finalists and winners:

  • Kevin Ross [Metova] accepted the Software Developer of the Year award on behalf of his company’s development team
  • Jason Moore [Stratasan] won Early Stage Company of the Year
  • Tod Fetherling [also of Stratasan] was the newest member to be inducted in the NTC Hall of Fame
  • Jessica McDougal [of EO member company Teknetex] was a finalist for Volunteer of the Year
  • Carl Pottkotter [of EO member company NovaCopy] was a finalist for CTO of the Year
  • Jason Levkulich [also of NovaCopy] was a finalist for Company of the Year

David Waddell’s [Waddell & Associates] column was featured in the Memphis Daily News on Wednesday. The article discussed the possible alternatives to dividends.

Sam’s Sports Grill [Sam Sanchez] was voted one of America’s Best Sports Bars by The Daily Meal.

On Wednesday, the Nashville Business Journal wrote about Jame Fields’ [Concept Technology Inc.] creative idea to turn to valet parking to solve its growing parking issues.

Bernard Health [Alex Tolbert] was featured in Wednesday’s Tennessean. Alex was mentioned in response to BlueCross ending its plan to open a retail store in Nashville.

Rebecca Donner’s [Inner Design Studio] article was featured in Healthcare Design Magazine. Her article included tips to reduce patient room noise with design materials.

Adam Platt mentioned Benjamin Goldberg [Strategic Hospitality] in his blog today for Conde Nast Traveler. Adam met Benjamin on his Southern States Food Tour. He also mentioned the excellent food he tried at the Patterson House and the Catbird Seat.

EO Nashville Members in the News: Inc. 500, NEXT Awards, Ben Goldberg & Michael Brody-Waite

It has been an award heavy week for EO Nashville members (not that we’re complaining)!

On Wednesday, Inc. magazine announced its newest list of America’s 500 fastest-growing private companies. Of the three Nashville companies that made the list, two were members of EO Nashville: Teknetex [John Kepley] and Medicare.com [Bill Kimberlin].

Also this week, the Nashville Chamber announced its finalists for the company and individual NEXT awards. EO Nashville members and member companies that were honored included:

The Catbird SeatBen Goldberg’s The Catbird Seat also landed on Bon Appetit’s Hot 10 List of America’s Best New Restaurants this week. The Catbird Seat ranked fifth on the powerhouse list.

And lastly, Inquicker received national press attention, appearing in an Entrepreneur magazine piece on the “7 Deadly Sins of Business Meetings.” In the article, Michael Brody-Waite talks about how his company did away with unproductive meetings.

Steve Curnette’s printing company, Allen Printing Company, Inc., made the 2012 Top 100 Printers List, which is compiled by Quick Printing. Allen is the only company on the list from Tennessee and is also the oldest company to make the list.

Tim Ozgener [OZ Nashville] was highlighted in Venture Nashville about his efforts to make the former CAO headquarters and humidor into a destination showplace for special events, including on-loan works of art. Read the clip here.

EO Nashville President Andy Bailey [Petra] was interviewed by the Nashville Business Journal’s Brian Reisinger about how one can achieve entrepreneurial success. The article ran in NBJ’s 6/22 edition.

Andy also ran a column in the Tennessean on entrepreneurship and managing a small business.

EO Nashville members also received media attention after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act Thursday morning.

Ben Hanback [The Hanback Group] was featured on Fox Business News Thursday afternoon on “Money” with Melissa Francis. The show talked about how the health care ruling would impact companies and individuals. You can watch the video here.

Dan Hogan [Medalogix] spoke about how the ruling would impact his health care technology company on the Nashville Post (read story here) and Nashville Medical News (read story here).

EO Nashville Members in the News: bytes of Knowledge, Stratasan, Medi-Copy Services, Metova and The Catbird Seat

bytes of Knowledge [Charles May]: Over the last quarter, Charles and Julie May’s technology company bytes of Knowledge has been featured in a Nashville Post Q&A and a Business Journal Case Study, which focused on their one-stop tech shop status.

Stratasan [Jason Moore]: Stratasan’s national recognition at the 2012 Health Datapalooza was featured on the Nashville Post blog.

Medi-Copy Services [Elliott Holt] : Medi-Copy Services as recently named one of the Business Journal’s 2012 HealthCare Heros. Check out the whole list here.

EO Nashville Members in the News: Jason Moore & Darek Bell

A couple EO Nashville members have been receiving media mentions left and right over the past few weeks.

Jason Moore

Jason Moore, CEO of the health care data company Stratasan, was profiled as Startup America’s featured member of the day. Jason was also recently interviewed by the Nashville Business Journal to be included in an article about building Nashville’s tech community.

Jason’s business partner, Tod Fetherling, chairman of Stratasan, was asked by the Business Journal to weigh-in on the likelihood of a Google expansion in Nashville. EO Nashville member and President and CEO of the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, Michael Burcham, was also interviewed for the article.

The Evansville Courier & Press featured Stratasan’s startup story in an article titled, “Entrepreneurial spirit: Henderson native says business incubator could benefit this area.” Stratasan also provided “a comprehensive evaluation and assessment of community statistics, demographics and consumer behavior, assessment of community health data and evaluation of community surveys” to the Cumberland Medical Center, a fact recently covered by the Crossville Chronicle.

Darek Bell

Darek Bell, owner/distiller of Corsair Artisan Distillery, had his Triple Smoke Whiskey featured in the latest Wine Spectator. Download the article (“Whiskeys_on_the_Wild_Side“) here.

Darek was also included in a Tennessean story on the burgeoning local whiskey and bourbon market. SouthComm Publications showed some more Corsair love: the Nashville Post wrote about Darek winning best whiskey at the American Distilling Institute, beating 240 other competitors, and the Nashville Scene Bites Blog profiled all of Corsair’s recent accolades.

EO Nashville Members in the News: Gabriel Smith, Scott Snoyer, Michael Burcham & Ben Goldberg

This week’s Nashville Business Journal included stories with three EO Nashville members.

  • Gabriel Smith (Legacy Learning Systems) was subject of this week’s “Executive Profile.”
  • Scott Snoyer (Fastsigns) was featured in the “Case Study” section on the “10 Minutes to Better Business” page.
  • Entrepreneur Center CEO Michael Burcham was included in an article about the EC’s move to the Trolley Barn. The article also included a quote from Jason Moore (Stratasan), owner of the first company to join the EC. This week, Stratasan was also included in an article in The City Paper about “Public entrepreneurship.” The EC will also act as the Northern Middle Regional Entrepreneurial Accelerator under Governor Haslam’s recent economic development strategy.
